The country of Vanuatu is spread out over dozens of islands, and Air Vanuatu plays an important role in connecting them. The airline currently serves 26 airports on 19 different islands domestically.
In addition, international services started in 1987, connecting Australia, New Zealand, Papau New Guinea, Fiji, Solomon Islands, and New Caledonia to Vanuatu.
Though Air Vanuatu’s carry on luggage size allowance is clear, their weight allowance for cabin baggage is a bit confusing. Read on for more information.

Air Vanuatu carry on luggage size allowances
Number of items allowed: 1 carry on item
Maximum cabin luggage dimensions allowed:
- Imperial (converted) H x W x D = 18.9 x 13.3 x 9 in
- Metric (official) H x W x D = 48 x 34 x 23 cm
The weight limit for carry on luggage is a bit confusing on the Air Vanuatu website.
When looking at both the “baggage” tab and the “domestic” tab on the page linked above, in some places it’s listed as 5 kg while in others it’s listed as 7 kg, both for the same destination.
However, under the “domestic” tab, the maximum weight allowed listed is 11 lbs (converted) / 5 kg (official) for all destinations mentioned: travel from/to Vanuatu, travel from/to Australia/New Zealand, travel from/to New Caledonia/Fiji.
I will list all possibilities found on their website, even when they appear to contradict themselves. I recommend verifying your allowance when booking your ticket.
Maximum weight allowed in imperial (converted) as listed under the “baggage” tab:
- Travel from Australia/New Zealand, economy and business = 15.4 lbs
- Travel from Solomon Islands/Papau New Guinea, economy and business = 15.4 lbs
- Travel from New Caledonia/Fiji, economy = 11 lbs
- Travel from New Caledonia/Fiji, business = 15.4 lbs
Maximum weight allowed in metric (official) as listed under the “baggage” tab:
- Travel from Australia/New Zealand, economy and business = 7 kg
- Travel from Solomon Islands/Papau New Guinea, economy and business = 7 kg
- Travel from New Caledonia/Fiji, economy = 5 kg
- Travel from New Caledonia/Fiji, business = 7 kg
