Exciting Changes on Travel Made Simple

It’s time for something new on Travel Made Simple!

This is primarily a site about travel planning, packing advice, and tackling your travel-related fears. But I also want to share a little bit about some of the wonderful travel destinations our world has to offer. All the planning advice in the world might not get you to book a trip if you’re not sure where you want to go.

Monthly Themes

changes on Travel Made SimpleEach month I will highlight a different country. On the first of the month, you will get two different photos to choose from that you can download and use as wallpaper on your computer.

Throughout the month, come back to the site for example itineraries, as well as posts about the country. These could include a certain city or region, a popular activity, the food or cultural differences to be aware of before you go there. The topics will vary based on the destination.

You’ll still see my normal posts on packing, planning, fears and more that aren’t part of the theme.

Monthly Newsletter

I’m also starting a monthly newsletter for Travel Made Simple. Subscribers will find out the next month’s theme ahead of time. The newsletter will also include travel tips that don’t always make it onto the blog. This will evolve over time, and I’d love your input since I want to help you. Would you like to see more photos that inspire you to travel? Do you want more packing tips? Whatever it is, just let me know!

Carry-On Size Chart by Airline

A few months ago, I started working on a chart to show the carry-on size restrictions of all the airlines in the world. It’s interactive, so you can sort by weight, dimensions,  or airline name, and you can filter by region of the world. It’s a huge project, so right now I have airlines based in the US, Canada, Mexico, and Europe. This is a work in progress and unfortunately very time consuming, but I hope to eventually have all commercial airlines in the world listed. Check out the carry-on size chart here. It’s also linked on the menu.

Travel Made Simple Store

changes on Travel Made SimpleI’m in the process of compiling lists of travel books and other travel products that I love, all in one place. I’ve put it all on one page called the Travel Made Simple Store, where you can browse through my recommendations and buy through Amazon. I do get a tiny commission from this, but your cost stays the same and your purchases help support this site and keep it running. The store is also linked on the menu.

Site Redesign

Over the next few months, I will be doing a bit of an overhaul on the site. I want it to look better and function better. I also want it to be easier for you to navigate through the site and find topics you’re looking for. Keep an eye out for a new logo, a new front page and better categories and tags.

Helping You!

I’m making these changes and introducing new features in order to help you, my readers.

As I mentioned above, I really do want to hear from you about what it is you’re interested in reading. If there’s a topic you’re curious about, let me know in the comments or send me an email at My main goal with this site is to encourage you to travel and help make the process more simple and less intimidating. The new changes on Travel Made Simple will help with that goal!

The first newsletter will go out towards the end of April. Don’t forget to come back tomorrow to find out what April’s theme is!

I look forward to seeing what you do with the site Ali. A couple of suggestions I would like to make – with the carry on sizes page, could you specify the measurement system you are using for the carry ons, i.e. is it imperial or metric and also can a calculator be put on the page so that we can convert lbs into kilos. That’s really important for anybody not based in the States who use the metric system. Also, and you’re probably already thinking of doing this anyway, add more travel gadgets to the store as soon as you can. It will help you with your site and also be of more relevance to newer travelers. The books and whatnot are fine but I was thinking add luggage, adapters and other things like that to the store.

As always I love your work and what you are doing. Keep it up and I wish you all the best going forward 🙂

Thanks for the suggestions Matthew! On the carry-on chart, I do mention in the description above the chart that the measurements are in inches and pounds (since more than half of my traffic comes from the US), not metric, but maybe I should make it more noticeable. Also, if you click on the name of the airline, you’ll go to a separate page that gives the metric and imperial measurements plus some more info about their restrictions and a link to the airline’s carry-on info page.

As for the store, yes I do need to add more luggage and gadgets. I have books in one category and some other travel-related stuff in another category called travel products, but it might not be so clear that there’s another category there to click on. I need to keep playing with it, and I’ll definitely add more to it.

Thanks, as always, for reading my sites and commenting!
